American bad boy rocker Tommy Lee fronts a star-studded line-up for the inaugural Queenstown New Year’s Eve music festival EarthTonz.
Mountain Scene can reveal Lee, from 1980s heavy metal band Motley Crue, pairs up with hiphop turntablist DJ Aero to headline the 15-hour party at Gibbston Valley Station. DJ Aero has previously worked with Snoop Dogg and Korn.
Lee and Aero will perform a multi-media DJ show of electro-house sound with break-beat and hip-hop influences.
Best known for his hard rock music, Lee’s a self-confessed closet dance music fan.
“Every drum solo I’ve ever played in an arena, I’ve always incorporated loops, beats, electronic stabs and samples,” he says.
Also heading from the United States to the inaugural festival is top act The Crystal Method, which have produced well-known tracks like Trip Like I Do and dance floor anthem Keep Hope Alive.
United Kingdom electronic maestros The Freestylers, who produced the 2004 hit Push Up, join the list alongside DJ Muggs – the producer and DJ for US hip-hop group Cypress Hill. Holland’s Kraak & Smaak, AK1200 and other members of North American electronic dance music tour Planet of the Drums, plus Boombox, Ana Sia, Heatbox and New Zealand’s own Minuit round out the show.
EarthTonz runs from noon, December 31 till 3am, January 1. It has 10,000 tickets available, at $149 each.
