Wakatipu High School pupils have been recognised for their dramatic flair.
Pupils recently received three awards during the finals of the TheatreFest national one-act play competition at Toi Whakaari in Wellington.
Drama coordinator Monica Parker says the competition is a firm fixture for drama students on the school calendar – they’ve made the finals four times in five years, winning in 2015.
This year’s play, Tiggy Touchwoodlead characters Missy and Tig, “a same-sex couple that battle with a tragedy in Tig’s past that has left her broken and hiding behind a new personality”.
Two students received the Jannat Aitchison Memorial Award for Emerging Distinctive Talent – Year 13 students Hannah Coombe, for her original song and performance, and Leah McHugo, for her performance as a mentally-impaired woman. Year 12 student Tasman Hughes received the Selecon Design/Technical Award for lighting.
