It’s believed a 52-year-old Australian visitor who died in Queenstown last week had collapsed after a medical incident.
The man, who’d been canyoning at Twelve Mile with his wife and three children on Monday afternoon, was taking off the last part of his wetsuit when he collapsed, Canyoning Queenstown co-owner Stefan Crawford says.
“There was nothing in our waiver form suggesting any pre-existing condition and talking to the family, it sounded like it was a complete surprise because he was such a fit guy.”
Crawford says his staff at the company’s Bob’s Cove building administered CPR till an ambulance arrived, but the man died that night at Queenstown’s Lakes District Hospital.
“We really extend our sympathies to the family,” he says.
He adds that he also offered counselling to his staff.
