A Queenstown art auction tomorrow will prop up Wakatipu High’s Year 10 Branches camp.
Organised by the Branches Charitable Trust, it features about 80 works by local artists like Peter Beadle, Ivan Clarke and Rachael Errington.
Artists set a reserve price and anything bid over that goes to the trust.
Last year’s auction raised $16,000.
Organiser and trustee Vinny McCorkindale says: “It’s just a good night out. We get to raise some money and help out local artists as well.”
Tickets for the auction, from 5.30 till 8.30pm at the Queenstown Memorial Centre, are $20, which includes continous nibbles served by students attending this year’s camp.
McCorkindale, whose daughter attended the 12-day backcountry camp three years ago, and whose son goes this year, says many ex-students call it a life-changing experience.
“The bit I like is they get to leave their electronics at home.”
Fellow trustee Al Luke was struck by how many school leavers single out the camp as their highlight.
