A Queenstown art auction tomorrow offers affordable art for sale while also fundraising for a legendary backcountry school camp.
The Branches Camp art auction and hors d’oeuvres evening raises funds for Wakatipu High’s 12-day Branches camp, which this year will be attended by about 180 Year 10 students.
Organiser Vinny McCorkindale, left, and trust chairperson Louise Ward are pictured with a painting for sale of Branches, just past Skippers, by Queenstowner Heather Black.
About 60 artists, including some ex-students, have offered about 120 artworks. Eight or nine will be auctioned by local realtor Richie Heap, and the rest will be for sale by silent auction.
Renowned local artist Peter Beadle has again contributed a painting.
Ward says the trust’s fundraising is to keep camp costs down for parents.
“It’s $350 for the students to attend – if it wasn’t for the trust, it would be $550, $600.”
The event starts at the Queenstown Memorial Centre tomorrow at 5.30pm.
Tickets, $20, are selling at Queenstown Arts Centre, the Wakatipu High School office and via www.branchestrust.co.nz
