Arrowtown’s about to get a spring in its step.
Ali Soper has launched Arrowtown in Bloom, a project to create beautiful floral displays in business windows to celebrate spring.
Soper says she was inspired by seeing retailers in London and Paris with “gorgeous” shop displays earlier in the year.
“It’s that feeling you get when you walk down a street you know very well when it’s been transformed for a special event, it’s quite uplifting,” she says.
“We just want to make people feel good.”
The project’s received plenty of support, including from local businesses, which are embracing it “wholeheartedly”.
It also bookends nicely with the Arrowtown Autumn Festival, and will serve as a lead-in to the Arrowtown Horticultural Society show on September 27.
Soper says they’re keen to make it an annual event.
The displays are being created by a team of florists, lead by Mary Phillips, with businesses paying for the materials.
Phillips says any donations of high-quality silk or artificial flowers would be appreciated.
