Police are keen to hear from witnesses after an Arrowtown teenager died in an horrific crash on the Lindis Pass.
The teen is Hamish Bagley and police have informed his family.
The popular youngster was travelling north along State Highway 8 on Sunday night and crashed north of Cluden Hill summit at about 5.30pm.
“Initial indications were that the vehicle had failed to take a bend and left the road, crashing into a fence and tree,” a police spokesman says.
“It came to rest about 30 metres below the road at the bottom of a steep bank. The vehicle then burst into flames.”
The youngster, who was the sole occupant, is believed to have been thrown from the car when it left the road.
A following motorist stopped to help just as the car exploded and burst into flames.
An officer from the Serious Crash Unit in Alexandra has inspected the scene.
Police are keen to hear from witnesses or those driving in the area at the time.
