Arabian nights to Queenstown stage

The magic of one of the world’s best-loved tales will arrive in Queenstown this weekend.

Students from Wakatipu Conservatoire of Classical Ballet will strut their stuff in two performances of Magic of the Lamp – Aladdin’s TaleMemorial Centre.

Ballet teacher Theresa Swain says the show will bring together elements from the Persian, Chinese and Indian versions of the story.

“It’s a fusion.”

Seventy performers will take part in the show, ranging from three-year-olds to adults.

Some of those performers, including (from left) Ankita Pilo, 10, Elsie Seeto, 9, and Georgia Cammell, 10, were busy putting the final touches on the show at rehearsals last Saturday.

The show will take place at the Memorial Centre at 11am and 5pm this Saturday.

Tickets are $25 for adults, $17.40 for kids.
