The Queenstown Returned and Services’ Association branch is holding its first Anzac Day dawn service in decades next Thursday.
President Dave Geddes says it’s in response to requests from locals and two large Australian/Kiwi groups who’ll be in town.
The 6.45am service at the lakeside Memorial Gates will include a reading from the diary of a Wakatipu-born soldier shot in the chest at Gallipoli in 1915.
The usual Queenstown parade leaves the Memorial Gates at 9.15am, followed by a Memorial Centre service at 9.40am.
Guest speaker is local MP and Deputy Prime Minister Bill English, also speaking at the Arrowtown RSA’s service at Arrowtown Hall 11am. A march to Memorial Hill follows.
