Plucky pensioner Anne Clinger is proof that aqua exercise can be for all ages.
The 93-year-old hits the pools at Alpine Aqualand three times a week with personal trainer Tania Campbell for half an hour of aerobic, resistance and stability workouts.
Clinger, from the United States, has been coming to Queenstown for five-month holidays for the past 21 years with her son Michael and his partner.
Michael claims his mum – a dementia sufferer – loves the exercise, which also makes her sharper.
“This is the one thing she enjoys the most about being in New Zealand,” he says.
Clinger also suffered from osteoporosis, but doesn’t take medication any longer due to her “tremendously beneficial” exercise regime.
That and a nutritious diet are the main reasons she’s still fighting fit, even after suffering a “horrific” fall at aged 91.
