Ambos called after drug binge

A middle-aged Nelson man’s ‘speed’ binge with a German teenager at a posh Queenstown hotel has landed him in court.

Timothy Owen Mahon, 52, admitted supplying amphetamine to Lina Zuchantke, 19, at the Hilton Hotel in July.

The furniture remover and the backpacker snorted lines of the class B-controlled drug off the top of the mini-bar, sergeant Ian Collin told Queenstown District Court on Monday.

Police were called after Zuchantke called for an ambulance saying she needed medical assistance related to drug use.

Collin says the pair had met in the Tasman area earlier in 2015 and agreed to meet up again in Queenstown.

They spent three days at the Hilton, seldom leaving the room. On the third day, Zuchantke called for an ambulance and said the man she was with might also need assistance.

She was taken to hospital by ambulance and Mahon followed in a taxi.

Collin said: “They were spoken to by police at the hospital.

“The defendant admitted supplying the drug and said he had bought a quarter of a gram, one bag, from a friend.”

Mahon admitted supplying the drug and was remanded on bail for sentence on November 9.
