All for charity, kids

Inspired by his kids’ artistic talents, Lake Hayes dad Ben Hudson (pictured) has gathered hoards of valuable artwork to sell for charity.

Pictured with daughters Jess, 4, and Isabelle, 2, architect Hudson has been given more than 120 sketches, paintings, digital prints and mixed media art from prominent Kiwi artists, authors, illustrators – even a doodle from Prime Minister John Key – to be auctioned on Saturday.

Among the works are five originals from Weta Workshop illustrators plus four prints from well-known art collaborators Weston Frizzell (Mike Weston and Otis Frizzell).

The inaugural Collections from the Fridge Door to Gallery Wall event will raise money for Arrowtown Plunket to upgrade its outdoor area and pay for educational courses.

“Some of the art could be considered quite collectible, plus there’ll be a lot of affordable art as well,” Hudson says.

A public viewing is on at Artbay Gallery tomorrow and Saturday, with the auction at the gallery from 6.30pm Saturday.
