All downhill from here

Queenstown Winter Olympics ski-racing prospect Tim Cafe (centre) is all smiles after his biggest financial boost – a $14,025 cheque from Winter Festival director Sally Feinerman and Bruce Grant Youth Trust chairman Andy Brinsley.

As the trust’s inaugural Winter Festival special achiever, Cafe received the proceeds of fundraising for his Olympics campaign at the opening party and Mardi Gras – and especially from an auction during a charity breakfast at Coronet Peak.

Named after a local Winter Olympian who died after summiting K2 in the Himalayas in 1995, the Bruce Grant Youth Trust has handed out more than $200,000 to benefit Wakatipu youth, but this is its biggest contribution.

Cafe, 21, says the funding will cover his training this winter and kickstart his northern hemisphere campaign, hopefully culminating in the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
