Two Japanese women have been robbed at knifepoint in the car park of a Queenstown supermarket.
The women were threatened by a man with a large knife, wearing safety goggles and a head lamp, and handed over cash.
Police are investigating the aggravated robbery, outside FreshChoice on Gorge Road at about 9.45pm on Thursday.
Detective Grant Miller says: “Two female foreigners were approached as they were getting into their vehicle to leave.
“After being threatened, they have handed over cash and the offender has decamped into the car sales yard situated on the corner of Hylton Place and Gorge Road.
“He was wearing clear-lensed safety type goggles, white hat or heading covering and head lamp.
“It would appear that he used a bicycle to arrive and depart the vicinity.”
The man is described as white with an average build and height, wearing a dark-coloured jacket and pants.
“It is possible the offender was in the area sometime before the offence,” Miller says.
“Police would like to hear from anybody who was in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious.”
