Go Black: Mu Hammond, centre, and Mel Pinfold (far right) cheer on the All Blacks during their 8-7 win over the French in the Rugby World Cup final
Queenstown is celebrating on the back of the All Blacks’ gutsy win in the Rugby World Cup final.

Wellingtonian Mu Hammond - a stunt double in Queenstown for the filming of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit - proudly wore his All Blacks jersey in Queenstown’s packed Barmuda bar during the game and said afterwards the result was a relief.

“I’m relieved – I don’t have to burn my jersey. It was a frustrating game because the All Blacks should have won by more.”

The All Blacks held onto a slender 8-7 lead during a dramatic final ten minutes.

In the final three minutes, the All Blacks kept the ball tight in the forwards winding down the clock.

All Blacks head coach Graham Henry said it was a great night to be a New Zealander.

“It’s been quite outstanding. The way Richie and the boys hung in there to win this thing was quite superb.”

French captain Thierry Dusautoir won the man of the match award.

Early in the first-half, All Black prop Tony Woodcock scored a brilliant try to give the All Blacks a five-nil lead which they took to the half-time break.

A follow-up penalty by substitute first-five Stephen Donald gave them an eight-point buffer.

In the second half, Dusautoir dotted down for France's sole try which was converted.
