Feeling privileged: Incoming Winter Festival manager Lisa Buckingham
A new Queenstown Winter Festival manager has been chosen to step into the large shoes of former long-time director Simon Green.

Invercargill-based Lisa Buckingham, a business development, marketing and event specialist, takes over on October 15.

Green retired last Friday after organising seven Winter Festivals in the past 10 years.

Buckingham’s previous jobs include territory manager for liquor company Pernod Ricard, head of tourism for Venture Southland, Invercargill i-Site manager and a range of events, marketing and public relations roles inside and outside of New Zealand.

Her festival role will entail driving its strategic direction and management and working on marketing strategies with event owner Destination Queenstown.

DQ chief executive Graham Budd says: “Our retiring manager Simon Green will be a hard act to follow but I’m confident that with Lisa’s experience and knowledge, the festival is in good hands.

“There are many complexities involved with the event so having a strong leader who understands the opportunities and challenges is vital for its ongoing success.”

Buckingham says she feels very privileged to take on the role.

“I’m really looking forward to working with my team, the community and festival stakeholders to deliver an outstanding event that locals are proud of and want to take part in, and that visitors love.”

Queenstown’s biggest party, in its 39th year next year, runs from June 21-30, 2013.
