A former Southland dairy farmer has quietly grabbed a major slice of some of downtown Queenstown’s best addresses.

Little-known Les Keeper, 50, now has a major stake in eight CBD buildings – including the landmark Steamer Wharf and Mountaineer complexes – amounting to tens of millions of dollars.

Keeper’s share in those two buildings and three others was acquired last year in the biggest CBD property play since 2004.

Years earlier he’d also bought up three other buildings including two historic premises in The Mall.

“My aim is to have an impact on the CBD over time,” Keeper says in his first Queenstown media interview.

“For instance, Steamer Wharf, the big opportunity in time is to turn it into something very special.

“As opportunities come up, and if the business is successful, we’d cer-tainly look to grow.”

A long ago forgotten fact....
That Queenstown was built on mostly, Southland farming money. I say - Good on ya mate. Show those Jaffa's how it's done. Bet you don't leave any huge holes in the ground or riip down family holiday parks only to go bust.
