David Mitchell wave skiing for New Zealand

Queenstown tourism firm AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand has appointed a new boss.
David Mitchell – an expert engineer, businessman and former waveski world champion – will become CEO in February.
He replaces Michelle Trapski, who quit the pioneering adventure tourism business in August after six years at the helm.
Mitchell, from Christchurch, is currently being shown the ropes by bungy co-founder Henry van Asch.
Van Asch says: “Five days in the raft at the Kawarau Bridge will be the best way for him to gain an understanding of our valued customers.
“It will give him an opportunity to talk with many of our great crew.”
Married dad-of-two Mitchell has more than 15 years’ experience on international projects.
His last role was in Dubai as managing director of Middle Eastern operations for Florida firm Applied Technology and Management.
Before entering management, the New Zealander worked as a bridge design engineer in the UK.
A keen sportsman, he has travelled the world extensively representing New Zealand in waveski surfing. He won the world title in Spain in 2002.
Van Asch says: “David will help strengthen and lead the current management team.
“He will play a crucial role in advancing AJ Hackett Bungy as a leader in adventure tourism and innovation.
“David is excited to be joining the team and is looking forward to meeting the crew and all of the industry partners who have helped build this company into a kiwi icon with an amazing international reputation.”
Mitchell has an honors degree in civil engineering from Canterbury University and a masters in business administration from Edinburgh Business School, and is also a member of the Institute of Professional Engineers New Zealand.
Mitchell says: “I foresee immense opportunity for Bungy NZ to build on the established core business and target sustainable growth while ensuring that organisational culture is maintained and respected as a fun, professional and safe work environment.”
