Netball reps: Alex Jones (left) and Emma Milliken
|
Three Queenstown netball starlets will be trekking south each week for another season as Southland reps.
Talented trio Alex Jones, 17, Emma Milliken, 17, and Lucy Robins, 15, have been named in the under-19 Southland representative team.
The Wakatipu High students are no strangers to rep sides – or the four-hour weekly return drives to Gore or Invercargill for training and games.
The girls were all in the under-17 squad last year, but Milliken says it’s a big step up.
“I’m pretty stoked about it. It’s quite a big jump from under-17s to under-19s.
“There are less people trialing and the quality is a lot higher,” Milliken says.
Jones: “To be honest I didn’t think I’d get in because the competition was quite hard.”
Wendy Frew, a former Silver Fern and co-captain of the Southern Steel, will coach the girls.
Jones and Robins were also in the Netball South talent ID squad – plus super-sporty Robins also made Southland’s Lois Muir Challenge squad earlier in the year.
