Queenstown pro tennis coach Lan Bale (left) takes down protege Harry James, 17, last weekend.

Bale, number one for Southern Lakes, beat now-Dunedin-based Otago number one James 6-1 6-1 at the Queenstown Gardens courts last Sunday during the annual southern teams event.

Southern Lakes team-mate Mark Milburn says of former ATP pro Bale: “He was clinical, very clinical.”
Southern Lakes won 10 matches to two over Otago.

A day earlier Southern Lakes pipped Southland seven to five. It puts reigning champs Southern Lakes in pole position ahead of the second leg in Dunedin in February.

Southern Lakes men: Bale, James Smith, Mark Milburn, Justin Russell, Tim Medland and Jason Thorburn. Women: Louise and Felicity Oxnevad, Suma Ito, Sarah Patterson, Simone Hart and manager Karen Mitchell.
