Inland Revenue claims it’s owed $134,000 from the original builder of a $10 million Queenstown super-home.

The amount, in outstanding GST and PAYE, is revealed in the liquidators’ first report for Slant Build Ltd.
The report, by joint liquidator Rhys Cain of Price-waterhouse Coopers of Christchurch, says the amount owed to IRD includes a preferential claim of $76,517.

Cain told Mountain Scene last December that Slant Build racked up “accumulated losses” of almost $750,000 in its three-year life.

The report lists 47 other creditors, 24 of which are Queenstown-based.

Local creditors include Laser Plumbing, Mico Plumbing Supplies, Shotover Engineering, Tradestaff, Queenstown Glass, Procure Concrete, Aurum Survey Consultants, PlaceMakers, Carters, Brazier Scoffolding and Eade Engineering, as well as Weber’s own company, Weber Consulting.

Slant Build was owned by local engineer Glenn Parker.

It had been contracted by design-build company Jagged – co-owned by Parker and fellow engineer Warrick Weber – to build a cantilevered super-home known as Jagged Edge, above Glenorchy Road.

Mansion owner Julian McPike told Mountain Scene last November his Southern Investments Trust paid out almost $5m to Jagged, which in turn allegedly passed more than $4m of that to Slant.

“I paid my money over which I earn, in good faith, and it wasn’t paid to the people doing the work – that’s what I’m very disappointed about,” McPike said at the time.

Slant Build was placed in High Court-ordered liquidation by United Scaffolding. McPike has since taken over the project, due for completion by Christmas.

Weber has committed to helping McPike finish the super-home. Parker, who formerly managed Queenstown Lakes District Council engineering contractor Imtech, was last reported to be in Abu Dhabi.
