Mad with power, King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) has declared war against humanity. Amassing a bloodthirsty army of soldiers disfigured by his own hand, Hyperion has scorched Greece in search of the legendary Epirus Bow, a weapon of unimaginable power forged in the heavens by Ares.
Only he who possesses this bow can unleash the Titans, who have been imprisoned deep within the walls of Mount Tartaros since the dawn of time and thirst for revenge. In the king's hands, the bow would rain destruction upon mankind and annihilate the Gods. But ancient law dictates the Gods must not intervene in man's conflict.
They remain powerless to stop Hyperion...until a peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill) comes forth as their only hope. Secretly chosen by Zeus, Theseus must save his people from Hyperion and his army...
Immortals is brought to you from the producers of 300, and both films share the same visual flair. The violence is extremely graphic and one scene in particular will have men crossing their legs, but if you are not averse to head chopping, tongue slicing, brain bashing and rib crushing, then Immortals is the film for you. I’m not sure it would work as a first date movie though.
Henry Cavill is the hero of the film, and does the job well. He spends most of the time stripped to the waist which was just fine by me. Cavill is currently filming the new Superman movie as the lead, so this was a good preview of his, erm, physique. Oh and acting skills. Obviously. On a more serious note it was great seeing Mickey Rourke and John Hurt in this movie to lend it a bit more gravitas.
Standout Performance: Henry Cavill
