Teen sensation Mary Fraser’s (right) amazing season could ironically backfire on the Queenstown Rovers women’s team.
The 17-year-old has won the Golden Boot for finishing top scorer in the Southland Premier Women’s competition – after notching an incredible 54 strikes in just 16 games.
Invercargill-based Fraser’s goal-fest wasn’t enough to stop Rovers finishing second to Southend United when the league wrapped up last Sunday.
And now her future at the Queenstown club is in doubt as she’s gunning for a place in the New Zealand women’s under-20 side that’s heading to the World Cup in Uzbekistan next year.
“If I do get into the international squad it’ll probably mean I’ll have to live in Auckland for a while, so at this stage I’m not really sure where I’ll be playing next season,” Fraser says.
