Big-hearted Queenstown hotel staff will battle through a tough adventure challenge in Fiji to raise cash for charity.
Nine resort employees from four local Accor Hotels are competing in the four-day Accor Extreme Challenge for Cure Kids Fiji.
Novotel general manager Jim Moore is stoked with Queenstown’s contribution to the event, which runs from tomorrow until next Tuesday.
“To have so many people going up and being part of it is very exciting,” Moore says.
Along with swimming, kayaking and running races, part of the challenge involves sprucing up Nadi Hospital’s maternity ward.
“I don’t know if they know what they’re in for – my handyman skills are not that flash,” Moore laughs.
Five teams of two had to raise $5000 each to enter the competition, but Queenstown entrants exceeded that by another $5000, raising a total of $30,000.
Moore says they’re not aiming to win the challenge.
“It’s more about the event and about doing things for the kids and to help them out. And also to have a bit of fun I suppose.”
Other hospitality workers jetting to Fiji are Esiteri Bovoro, Marina Silva, Paul Cook, Stephanie McDougall, Marion Bausse, Hanna Downey, Nara Sylos and Luiz Cauduro.
They’re from Accor Hotel’s Novotel Queenstown Lakeside, Hotel St Moritz, Sofitel Queenstown Hotel and Spa and Mercure Queenstown Resort.
