- Talk about Queenstown having the ear of government – the new Prime Minister is taking the tourism portfolio while the deputy PM is our new MP. By contrast, the outgoing tourism minister was so lowly ranked he couldn’t get back via the party list after losing his West Coast seat.

- Local Ros Greig celebrated her 60th last Saturday by inviting friends to a mad hatter’s tea party.
- If our new $460,000-a-year District Health Board superboss Brian Rousseau gets a hefty pay rise – and his new salary is presently being decided – then, according to The Listener, Rousseau could join New Zealand’s other four bureaucrats paid more than $500,000 a year.
