New attraction (from left): Melbourne’s Julie Irlam and sisters Bettina and Bianca Von Blomberg test out the new 3Ski Snow Bike Experience at Cardrona

A Wanaka man has blended his love of mountain bikes and skiing to create an extreme snow sports product.
Jason Buckley has spent the last six years perfecting his three-ski carving snow bikes to use up the slopes.
He’s now piloting his 3Ski Snow Bike Experience at Cardrona Alpine Resort for rental, lesson and tour packages.
“We wanted to create a new snow bike based on the idea that both skis and mountain bike technology had been through huge evolutions and surely it must be time to bring these together with a functional and appealing snow bike,” Buckley says.
Compatible with chairlifts, the service is suitable for adaptive and able-bodied skiers of all abilities, he adds.
“It’s so easy to use, some people have said that it’s 80 per cent easier than skiing.”
Buckley introduced his bikes to resorts in Japan and North America last year and has a “big list of future developments to evolve into the next generation”.
