Going the Distance
Rating: 4 / 5 stars

By Sally Burgess, Technical Manager

Erin (Drew Barrymore) and Garrett (Justin Long) meet at a bar and bond over bar trivia and games of Centipede.

One thing leads to another and the two become an item. Erin is leaving for San Francisco in six weeks though, and the couple decide that this is nothing more than a casual fling that will end neatly when Erin leaves. However, by then the relationship has developed into something deeper, and the trials and tribulations of maintaining a long-distance relationship have only just started. Can the two of them make it work? Can they ‘go the distance’?

There are plenty of laughs in this rom-com, and the two leads have great support in the form of Christina Applegate as Erin’s protective sister Corinne, and Jim Gaffigan as Corinne’s husband Phil. Gaffigan gets the best line in the film, and I won’t ruin it for you, but it involves a late night snack in the dark that gets a rather rude interruption from the horny lovebirds.

Guys, don’t be put off. This is not a chick-flick and I am sure many couples will find something in this film that they can identify with. Just don’t tell me what!

This is the funniest film I have seen since The Hangover. Go see it.

Standout performance: Justin Long

This movie is now showing at Reading Cinemas in Queenstown. This review has been written and rated by Sally Burgess of Reading Cinemas Queenstown.
