A Queenstown glider racing pilot is in the hunt to win the New Zealand Gliding Champs. Bill Walker was lying second on Tuesday with the Taupo-based event concluding tomorrow. Walker is among 24 glider pilots competing in the standard class category. A spokesman says the North Island terrain and conditions are completely different to what Walker will be used to in the South Island. “This adds to the impressive form Walker is showing. Conditions have not been ideal however more settled weather conducive to glider racing has arrived.”
