The new Invercargill-based team surprisingly beat the Giants 34-22 despite two sizeable round-robin losses to the Queenstown side.
“I think we tried as hard as we could, it was probably just a couple of quick tries from one of their players that broke the deadlock,” Giants club vice-president Teaukura Moetaua says.
The Giants are due to start playing in a new Otago–Southland competition on July 2.
