Iconic West Coast brewery Monteith’s is giving away free beer in Queenstown today (Wednesday) to celebrate its reopening.
Our shout: Monty's bar in Queenstown plus Frankton Ale House will be serving free Monteith's Roof Shout brew today (Wednesday)
The Greymouth brewery is back in business after an 18-month project – it involved the decommissioning of aging brewing equipment and demolition of old packaging lines and office buildings.
In honour of the reopening, Monteith’s brewers have concocted a drop called Roof Shout which will be served free – yes, free – at Queenstown pubs Monty’s and the Frankton Ale House today till the kegs run dry.
A Monty's spokeswoman says they have two Roof Shout kegs which will be chilled enough to serve from 4pm.
Monteith’s head brewer Tony Mercer froths: “After you get a house built, you put some beers on. When someone builds you a brewery you brew them a beer. We made Roof Shout to thank all the people who helped with the build and to get our drinkers excited about our new-found flexibility in terms of batch brewing.”
The West Coast brewery is 143 years old and the redevelopment cost $4 million.
