New health panellist: Martin Hawes
|
Community and health professional representatives have been chosen for the new Wakatipu health panel.
The community reference group was suggested by the National Health Board’s expert panel, which recently made recommendations for delivery of health services in the Wakatipu.
The two health professionals on the panel – which meets for the first time this week – are doctors Elinor Slater and James Reid.
Queenstown Lakes District Council has also chosen two community representatives, after advertising for expression of interest.
The two chosen are local Primary Health Organisation chairman Tony Hill and Queenstown-based financial advisor and author Martin Hawes.
There was strong interest in those two roles, mayor Vanessa van Uden says.
“No doubt that reflects the high level of interest in the future of health services in the Wakatipu.”
QLDC, represented by Van Uden, and Southern District Health Board representation will take the panel membership to seven.
“This panel will see through some important changes to the delivery of health in the Wakatipu,” Van Uden says.
“It will be tasked to maintain a strong interface with the community and to adopt a facilitative and constructive approach.”
