Fire fighters are tackling a scrub fire on Littles Road near Queenstown this afternoon (Wednesday).
Two engines were called to Dalefield about 3.30pm to deal with the moderate-sized blaze about 3km from the Coronet Peak turnoff. Police closed the road to traffic.
Sergeant Steve Watt says: “We’re not sure what caused it.
“The fire looks to be under control although there’s still smoke rising from a gully down there. The fire service has called in extra water.
“We’ve closed the road as a precaution because the two engines are on the carriageway, but there were no evacuations.”
About two acres of blackened scrub show the extent of the fire.
