It’s going to be a dance-off.

In a shock move, the Remarkable Men’s Ballet troupe have split ranks, with the Sugar Fairies set to lay down the gauntlet to the Plum Fairies during Sunday’s Queenstown Christmas Show.

Showing perfect poise during rehearsals this week are, back row, from left, Dave Mahoney, Matt Schneider, Mike Thurston; front, Craig Ferguson and Bert Haines.

Ferg, the 10-strong troupe’s leader, says its four new members showed no hesitation when they ere shoulder-tapped. “They’re more than keen, which is a bit of a worry.”

Director-choreographer Anna Stuart’s been “cracking the whip” during five weeks of rehearsals.

Meanwhile, rumour has it they’ll be performing a flash mob dance routine somewhere near Ballarat Street tomorrow, around 6pm.

This year’s Christmas Show is supporting Baby Box Queenstown Lakes, and the troupe’s got a help fill its coffers.

Sunday’s shows run at the Events Centre at 1pm and 5pm.
