It’s set to be one of the biggest Queenstown parties this summer, but the sentiment behind it’s no cause for celebration.
This Sunday the free Wakatipu Waiata for Australia’s being held on Queenstown’s Rec Ground, from 11am till 7pm, raising money for Australian bushfire relief.
Organiser and local muso Shay Muddle says the support’s been “overwhelming”.
He reached his $10,000 target last Thursday when locals Tonnie and Erna Spijkerbosch, owners of Queenstown Holiday Park & Motels Creeksyde, donated that amount to Queenstown Lions.
Money raised goes to Lions Australia to be handed out to registered charities.
There’ll be 25 musos playing on Sunday, as well as auctions, fundraising t-shirts for sale, a photo booth and face painting.
