A restricted fire season is now in effect for the Central Otago Lakes area.
Fire and Emergency NZ (FENZ) announced the restrictions yesterday, saying it’s due to ”the elevated fire indices and the long range outlook”.
”The long range forecast is for the odd passing shower for these areas but not enough to reduce the climbing indices in the medium to long term.”
A restricted fire season means you must have a permit to light a fire.
