Lamenting the lack of local services for motorcycle owners, a Queenstown couple has ridden to the rescue.

Rebecca and Michael McKee this month opened Remarkable Motorcycles on Frankton’s Glenda Drive, with two-wheeled enthusiasts flocking to check out the new facility.

A Suzuki dealership, the business stocks road bikes, farm bikes, sports bikes, dirt bikes and kids’ bikes.

It also sells riding gear and other apparel, and services all makes and models.

Michael notes that motorcycle oil runs through his family’s veins – his grandad, who’s over 80, still rides, as does his father and himself, and now also his four-year-old son.

With motorists regularly gridlocked in local traffic, Michael says their commuter bikes and scooters offer a solution.

“We’ve got an awesome wee 150cc commuter that’s just over $3000, and some of those scooters are under $3000.”

Rebecca says they hope to become more than just a shop.

“Riders can talk to our mechanics and get advice when buying parts or just have a chat about great places to ride in the area.

“We’re set up to screen motorcycle movies and hope to really become a hub for both local and visiting riders to connect with each other.”

The couple, who grew up in North Otago and have lived almost 10 years in Queenstown, conceived their business more than a year ago.

“We really wanted to be on Glenda Drive,” Rebecca says.
