Arrowtown designer Peni Moala is about to show off his skills on TVs around the country. Daisy Hudson talks to the talented Kiwi about fashion, culture, and being happy.
It’s fair to say 2018’s turning into a massive year for Arrowtown-based designer Peni Moala.
The 29-year-old retail assistant’s on the cusp of launching both a printing line and a summer fashion line, and is keen to link up with the Breast Cancer Foundation to raise awareness with a runway show.
Oh yeah, and he’s about to feature on the Kiwi version of one of the world’s biggest reality TV competitions.
Project Runway New Zealand launches this coming Monday, following the success of its Heidi Klum-fronted American counterpart.
Moala’s very aware of just how big a platform that is, and he’s not going to waste it.
“When you’re a person coming from a poor family, trying to make your way, it’s not easy.
“When Project Runway came up, I saw it as a great opportunity for myself, and for people like myself, trying to get ahead in life.”
