Queenstown’s George Brannigan’s got some high hopes this weekend.

The 27-year-old, pictured in action during the second race in the National Downhill Series at Coronet Peak last Sunday, heads to Dunedin for this Saturday’s 2020 Oceania mountain bike champs.

He’ll also have a crack at the mountain bike nationals title there on Sunday – both events are being held at Signal Hill, but on different courses.

“We’ll see [how I go] – I’ll definitely try hard.”

On Sunday Brannigan finished just 0.11 seconds behind Sam Gale – on Instagram he measured that as a “bee’s dick” – a reversal of the results in Bluff the weekend before.

Brannigan, who joined the Propain Factory Racing team earlier this month, says his troublesome run of injuries, which saw him take six months off from mid-2018, is hopefully behind him.
