Queenstown’s two Commonwealth Games athletes missed out on medal glory through defeat and injury.
Boxer Richie Hadlow lost a split-decision 4-1 against Sri Lankan Dinindy Ponawela Vidaalage Don on Monday night.
The 64kg fighter was in the round of 16, having come through a tough fight against Edrian Volcere of Seychelles, winning himself by a 4-1 split decision.
Meanwhile, transgender weightlifter Laurel Hubbard horribly injured her elbow while attempting a Commonwealth record 132kg for her final snatch lift.
She’d managed 120kg with her first lift but after her elbow appeared to hyperflex during her final snatch lift, she couldn’t progress to the clean and jerk round.
