Balls in the air for circus school

An Arrowtown circus school’s at risk of closing once the teaching space it relies on is lost at the end of the year.

Abigail Rose, who teaches circus classes at Arrowtown School, has just reached the point where her young students are performing on stage.

But she says due to construction planned at the school after this year she won’t be able to carry on and there aren’t any other suitable spaces in the area. “It’s devastating because I’m quite attached to the idea of taking it further.”

Rose has been teaching in Arrowtown for the past three years and now passes on her skills to about 25 children, as well as holding adult classes.

She says she might have to stop the classes altogeth-er or switch locations and risk losing students: “Abso-lutely we need more spaces with high ceilings.”

Rose and her students will hold a private end-of-year show on December 20.
