Hockey comeback: Simon Glass

Queenstown ice hockey star Simon Glass is “97 per cent sure” he’ll return to the rink this season.
The former Ice Black captain quit the international scene in 2008 after a 10-year stint and also hung up his skates for Queenstown-based Southern Stampede in 2009.
But Glass, 29, says the local side is short on numbers this season so he’s upping his fitness regime before the puck drops for the first national league game in May.
“After missing a season it’ll certainly be a different game for me,” Glass says.
While he says his days as a Kiwi rep are over, he predicts the 2011 Ice Blacks will nab their best result yet in division two at the current world champs in Australia.
The side won its first game on Monday against North Korea by forfeit but lost to Serbia 6-4 on Tuesday.
Glass: “I think they’ve got a really good team this year and certainly a chance of getting their first medal in division two in history.”
