Queenstowners Rose Quirk (front) and Janeen McSkimming plough through fresh powder up Coronet Peak yesterday morning.

“It was a pleasant surprise given it’s spring,” Quirk says of the excellent conditions which followed overnight dumps this week.

Quirk and her mates go up Coronet every Wednesday for a morning session – skiers and riders must hold a first-tracks pass to ride for an hour before lifts then open to all-comers from 9am.

By about 9.40am, Quirk says she’d done 11 or 12 runs and it was time to leave for work.
“That was pretty hard, to be honest.”
