Queenstown’s Jason Scott (pictured) should have the inside running at the New Zealand Sprint Car champs with his revved up $80,000 racing machine.
Scott’s Triple X race car has a 410 cubic inch motor and top speed of 160kmh.
The champs are being held tomorrow and Saturday at Scott’s home track, the Central Motor Speedway in Cromwell. That’s where he’s enjoyed his best results including two firsts over Christmas.
Thirty-two competitors will each race five heats to decide on a top-20 field for the 25-lap final. “It’s pretty hard to get in the top 10 but I’ll definitely be going for it,” Scott says.
Scott, 37, is helping organise the event with club president and fellow Queenstowner Andy Erskine.
