Elite Kiwi triathletes Jamie Whyte and Nicky Samuels (right) starred in the long-established Lake Hayes triathlon at Lake Hayes on Tuesday.
Whyte, who won this year’s Challenge Wanaka ironman-distance triathlon, finished second to Invercargill’s Robert Huisman.
Huisman, who’s recently recovered from glandular fever, recorded 1hr 2min 53sec, ahead of Whyte in 1:04.09sec.
Third overall and first junior was Troy McAlister, 17, of Winton, in 1:04.40sec.
Wanaka-based Samuels – who this year won her first ITU Triathlon World Cup title in Mooloolaba, Australia – easily took out the women’s race.
Her time of 1:05.14 was fourth fastest overall.
About 330 people – two-thirds in teams – competed in the popular annual triathlon, which included duathlon options.
