Sixty lucky Queenstown-Lakes residents can join civic welcomes for two Rugby World Cup teams when they arrive in New Zealand.
The welcomes are for Ireland and Georgia, who’ll make Queenstown their first training base in NZ in September.
Queenstown Lakes District Council is running a ballot for 60 people to attend either the Irish or Georgian welcomes.
“We will have local rugby represented but we also wanted a chance for our people to come and experience this historic occasion,” mayor Vanessa van Uden says.
The Irish civic welcome will be on September 4 and Georgia’s on September 6 – both will be held at Skyline.
The ballots can be entered at QLDC’s Gorge Road office.
Those who miss out have a chance to welcome the Irish and Georgian teams at the airport on September 1 and 5, respectively.
England and Romania will also be training in Queenstown during September but their civic welcomes will be in Dunedin.
