Shuttle run: Race the Train women's winner Carole Shuttleworth
An Arrowtowner has won the female section of the inaugural Race the Train running event in Kingston.

Carole Shuttleworth smoked the course and the Kingston Flyer steam train covering the 12km course from Fairlight station to Kingston in 47 minutes yesterday (Sunday).

“At one stage it was right behind me – I heard the toot and it made me run faster.”

Shuttleworth says it’s good preparation for the Challenge Wanaka Ironwoman later this month – she’s running the 42km leg as part of a team.

The Race the Train men’s winner – and first person home – was Wanaka’s Oska Baynes in 38 minutes and 43 seconds.

The race is the brainchild of local running enthusiast Adrian Bailey, who based it on a similar event held in his hometown back in Wales.

Results:

Open male: Oska Baynes, 1; Alun Williams, 2; David Keith, 3
Open female: Carole Shuttleworth, 1; Tanya Dromgool, 2; Sarah Cole, 3
