Triple strike: Wakatipu captain Regan Pearce nailed three drop goals against Maniototo

The Arrowtown and Wakatipu Premiers rugby teams clash in this weekend’s Central Otago final after hard-fought semi-final wins last Saturday.
Arrowtown came from behind to beat Clyde-Earnscleugh at the Events Centre in a thriller.
After sustained pressure, their prop Hori Elers was pushed over the try-line in the 84th minute.
The try gave Arrowtown a 21-17 win.
Clyde-Earnscleugh had led for most of the match, was 7-6 ahead at halftime and dominated Arrowtown three tries to two.
Arrowtown has now made the Central Otago final five seasons in a row.
It took the title in 2008 and 2009 but lost the last two finals to Maniototo.
Wakatipu, meanwhile, beat Maniototo 19-11 in their semi-final at the Queenstown Recreation Ground last Saturday.
Wakatipu led 13-3 at halftime after yet another fine try to centre Danny King.
Maniototo, bolstered by All Black hooker Andrew Hore playing as a blindside flanker, scored a try and penalty to shorten Wakatipu’s lead to 13-11.
However Wakatipu captain and first-five Regan Pearce expertly added another two drop goals to ease the pressure.
Saturday’s final, rather controversially, will be played at Alexandra.
The Central Otago board decided to schedule the final here to promote rugby in the region.
