A financial appeal for the young children of a former Queenstown man electrocuted in Kaikoura has been set up.
Farmer Brendon ‘Frog’ Walker was killed when electrocuted by a suspected fallen power line while checking on stock at about 9am on January 28.
The 39-year-old father of Allanah, 9, and Ethan, 7, spent about five years living in Queenstown and Glenorchy after moving here in 2001.
A family spokesperson says Brendon subsequently moved to Kaikoura with wife Sarah to pursue his farming dream.
Whilst in Queenstown, Brendon set up a company called Labourforce, which he kept going after shifting to Glenorchy where he indulged his passion for the region’s rivers and jetboating.
“He was just a good guy – everything was black and white, what you saw was what you got,” the spokesperson says.
Brendon retains strong family ties to Queenstown.
Part of the appeal for the kids includes an auction of a large painting on TradeMe which closes this Sunday at 8pm.
Anyone who knows the Walkers or wants to make a donation can do so into the Walker Family Appeal Account at the Bank of New Zealand. The account number is 02-0856-0022821-00.
The spokesperson says: “As long as we can keep something going for those kids, that’s what keeps us going now.”
Kaikoura resident and Walker family neighbour Amanda Henderson says she and the community spearheaded the appeal as a way of doing something for the family.
“Everyone was just shattered by what happened. This is one thing we figured we could do to help."
