Queenstown Police are investigating an alleged stabbing with a broken light bulb at a Queenstown hotel in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A 21-year-old man suffered wounds to his torso and legs in the incident. He was treated at Lakes District Hospital and released several hours later.

Queenstown Police detective Lisa Watt says: “The weapon used to inflict the injuries was a broken light bulb from a large lamp in the hotel room.”

An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He will be appearing in Queenstown District Court on Monday.

The two men involved are from Saudi Arabia and are related. They currently live in Christchurch, where they attend an English language school.
