Queenstown council boss all action at conference

Head honchos in the local government sector are in Queenstown hobnobbing at a three-day convention.

Chief executives and managers from councils around the country are in the resort to discuss ‘shaping the future’ at the New Zealand Society of Local Government Managers annual conference, which runs from today (Sunday) through to Tuesday.

For the third year running Kiwi comedy duo the Topp Twins will play the role of master of ceremonies, welcoming seminar-goers to the SOLGM meeting at Skyline Restaurant this afternoon.

Local Government Minister Rodney Hide will kick off the speeches tomorrow. He’ll then don his ACT leader’s hat and host a public meeting on dumping the Emissions Trading Scheme at local eatery Post Office Cafe at 11.30am.

Queenstown Lakes District Council chief executive Debra Lawson is also in the speaker’s line-up tomorrow as a ‘leader in action’.

Winners of the 2010 New Zealand Post Group Local Government Excellence Awards will be honoured at tonight’s opening ceremony.
